[Devlog] Presentation Week

[DevLog] Presentation Week

The time has come: our last devlog is here! While we couldn’t suppress a little sigh of relief (creating a game is serious business!), it’s also with a bit of sadness that we’ll have to let our little game walk into the big world on its own from now on! The past week was a hectic and exciting one and we tried to get the last bit out of the resources we had: fixing bugs, polishing the bits and bobs that bothered us all along but that we never had the time to fix, tweaking things, … all with the one end of making our game as polished and beautiful as we possibly can to wow the judges!

A few small additions were added , for example each team needs to win 3 rounds to win the game, the amount of hp the poison and feed ball add/detract from the Snake increase as the time progresses. We felt this keeps each round's duration from going on for too long and also prevents the game from going to a big stalemate.Another tweak we made was to make the ufo enemy depart from the map after an amount of time passes, also the ufo inflicts damage as well instead of just pushing the players away to fall off the grid.

Our tutorial has gotten another upgrade, making it as clear, concise and shiny and quite a few of our particle effects were also lead away for beautification one last time. As we usually playtest our game inside of the team, we decided to submit our game to a final stress test: Asking a random bunch of first year students at our university to play the game, we got quite a bit helpful feedback from them, especially when it comes to what might be unclear, hindering game play and most importantly, the fun factor. And we have good news! Our benevolent test objects gave us their seal of approval, not only with words but also the way they were laughing and joking as they were playing our game. There’s no better compliment to a Game Designer than to see people enjoy themselves, after you worked so hard to achieve just that 😊!

We hope everyone enjoyed joining us on the exciting journey to our very first game, thank you for reading!

All the best, Team Octopus
